Second Wind Charity Sale Starts This Saturday!

It's time again for our semi-annual Charity Sale

Take 50% off hundreds of items at Second Wind and the proceeds will be donated to the food bank.

From January 21st through January 28th, we will donate 100% of the proceeds from previously consigned sale items in our store to the South County Assistance Network (SCAN) food bank(*). Come in early to get the best selection of merchandise and help us help our neighbors in need.

The South County Assistance Network, Inc. (SCAN) is an organization of individuals from the faith community, business community, social services and other nonprofit organizations working together to provide assistance to those in need in our community.

Second Wind Consignments will help you turn your gently used furniture, and household items into CASH!

Don't spend money on advertising...

Don't waste time waiting around for no-shows...

Just drop your treasures off at the shop and we'll do the rest!

Consignment Policy

Consignments are accepted Tuesday through Friday during regular business hours. Appointments are not required, but please call ahead so we can be ready for you. We will be happy to take up to 20 items per consignor per week.

A contract must be completed before items are accepted. We will also make a copy of your driver's license or identification for our file.

The consignment period is 90 days, and consignors receive 50% of the final selling price. Payout checks (*) are mailed no later than the 10th of the month for account balances of $10 or more generated from the previous month's sales.

If an item has not been sold at the end of 30 days, the price is reduced by 10%. If the item has not sold at the end of 60 days, it is reduced by another 15%.

Any item remaining unsold at the end of the 90 day contract period must be claimed within 14 days of the contract expiration date or it will become property of Second Wind Consignments. Unsold, forfeited inventory may be sold at a twice-yearly sale and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to a charity of local interest.

We reserve the right to refuse to consign any item which does not meet our requirements.

Exceptions are at our discretion.

(*) All payout checks will be mailed to the address on your account. Please make sure your information is kept current if you have a change of address. We will be happy to issue a replacement for a check not received or lost. However, a stop-payment fee of $20.00 will be charged and deducted from the replacement check.

Generally, the following items ARE accepted:

Furniture in exceptionally good condition

Home Decorating Accessories and Candles (never lit)

Lamps, Lampshades and Throw Pillows

Artwork, Mirrors, and Silk Flowers

Kitchen items (dishes, utensils, cooking pans, etc.)

Everyday Dishes and Glassware (in sets, please)

Jewelry; Clocks and Watches (that are running)

Crystal

Kitchen and Table Linens

Musical Instruments

Throw Rugs that are clean and show no wear

Books (sorry, no mass-market paperbacks)

Marine Hardware and Boating Accessories

Garden Decor and Equipment

Tools

Generally, the following items ARE NOT accepted:

Clothing, Shoes or Handbags

Bed Linens including Afghans, Throws and Bedspreads

Personal Care Appliances

Toys

Crafts, Kits, Fabrics, Patterns and Macramé

Souvenir Plates or Shot Glasses

Unframed Artwork or Posters

Large Area Rugs

Window Treatments

TV's, Stereos and Computer Hardware

Metal Office Furniture

Used VHS, DVD, or Cassettes

Exercise Equipment

Stamps or Coins

Avon or Liquor Bottles

Florists' Vases

Our third Charity Sale is now underway! Many items in the store are marked down to 50% of their lowest ticket price! One hundred percent of the selling price of all 50% off items sold during this period will be donated to South County's SCAN foodbank. Our first two charity sales were a huge success. Exciting News!

Second Wind Consignments is moving! Don't worry, we are not going far. We are just moving to the LARGER space at the other end of our current building (where the Java Stop was). Our transition to the new space will happen between October 3 and October 14. We will NOT be closing the store during this time but will be transferring merchandise from one space to the other as time permits and on the days we are normally closed (Sunday and Monday*). We are very excited about having this opportunity to increase our showroom space and that we will now have plenty of stockroom space to take in all the great merchandise that comes in every day!

Special Note: Because of our move, we have delayed accepting Christmas merchandise until after we get settled in the new location. If you have Christmas decorations that you would like to consign, you may bring them in beginning Tuesday, October 12.

* If you are curious about our activity in the new store during our (normally) closed hours, we will be happy to let you take a peek. However, our point of sale system will not be active and we will be able to transact business only during regular business hours. Your understanding is greatly appreciated!

Charity Sale Update

Our July Charity Sale was a BIG success! From the proceeds of the sale, Second Wind Consignments was able to send a check in the amount of $677.59 to the South County Churches Energy Assistance Group. This money will be used to help needy South County residents pay their heating bills this winter. In addition, unsold sale items were donated to the Carrie Weedon Science Center(*) for their fall yard sale. The monies earned from their yard sale will help the staff at Carrie Weedon to continue enriching the curriculum of school children in our area. Thank you to all of our customers and consignors!

South County Churches Energy Assistance Group.

These funds will be available this winter to South County residents who are unable to pay their fuel oil and BG&E bills this winter.

Wow! What a month February has been so far! What have you been doing to cure your cabin fever? If you've been following the advice on the morning shows (what else to do, but watch tv) you have played games, read a book, and cleaned out those closets! UGH!

During your "blizzard cleanup" you may have uncovered treasures that you are ready to part with. Now is a good time to consign them at Second Wind Consignments! No appointment is necessary but a phone call before you come in is greatly appreciated.

Thoughts of Spring...

Most of us have our sights set on warmer, spring weather. Even if you can't get away to a tropical paradise, come in to Second Wind! Our ever-changing selection of quality decorative accessories will certainly warm your heart. Can you believe this charming couple are candles!??

I love the great pastel swirl platter (above) from Crate and Barrel too. The colors remind me of Spring flowers and colored Easter Eggs.

This gorgeous hand painted porcelain tulip cup and saucer was made by Mustardseed and Moonshine in Cape Town, South Africa. A beautiful and delicate reminder of the warmer seasons to come.

This beautiful amber Indiana Glass Company decanter and glass set with serving tray was manufactured between 1933 and 1940. It is in excellent condition with no visible chips or other damage. It would be a beautiful addition to a depression era glass collection or to use every day.
